"Looking" has been canceled by HBO, but fans will get closure. However, the show will get a chance to give viewers a proper ending and conclusion, Indiewire reported.

Created by Michael Lannan and directed by Andrew Haigh, the show ended Season 2 without coming to a proper ending. Because of this, HBO will produce a special episode to wrap things up.

"After two years of following Patrick and his tight-knit group of friends as they explored San Francisco in search of love and lasting relationships, HBO will present the final chapter of their journey as a special. We look forward to sharing this adventure with the shows loyal fans," HBO said in a statement.

The show was praised for its portrait of gay life in San Francisco but it failed to log strong ratings or any awards nominations. HBO often decides to renew shows based on their success for winning and being nominated for awards.

HBO decided to give "Looking" a second season to gain a following after the first. HBO has followed the trend of letting poorly performing shows live on. For example, the underperforming series "How to Make It in America" was given a second season as well.

HBO only gave "Looking" a total of 18 episodes to prove itself worthy. After the second season, HBO made the decision to pull the plug on the show.

Viewers complained that the show was too slowly paced. Other viewers found Patrick very immature, unrelatable and incapable of living on his own in San Francisco.

Although the show did have a strong base of fans, it never pulled in a big audience, Variety reports.

HBO has not announced when the special concluding episode of "Looking" will be aired. The Season 2 finale aired Sunday.
