Kanye West shared a series of Twitter updates regarding Nelson Mandela's recent passing. The rapper spoke about his admiration for the anti-apartheid icon and denied the reports of the contrary.

"At a young age my mother taught me the importance of his work. Mandela sacrificed his life for the betterment of mankind," West tweeted. "Thank you, Mandela for your life's work and may it serve as a guiding light to illuminate our future."

In contrast to the Yeezus rapper's Twitter posts showing his respect to Mandela's family, life and legacy, The Daily Currant, which identifies itself as "The Global Satirical Newspaper of Record," released a false made-up interview on Friday, Dec. 6. The post claimed that Kanye West said he believes he is "the next Nelson Mandela."

"I'm only 36 years old, and when I look at everything I've accomplished, it's the only comparison that makes any sense," The Daily Currant claimed Yeezy's statement. "By the time I'm 95, I'm going to be a bigger hero than he ever was."

As a result, other publications picked up the story and attributed the quotes to Kanye West. Although it was soon revealed that the interview was false, many readers were still sensitive about the satirical statements, taking to Twitter and expressing their anger about the claim.

Kanye West subsequently denied recent reports made concerning his comments about Mandela.

"I'd like to address the false stories and noise that have been engineered by the media," said 'Ye. "Despite recent media reports, I've never said anything to dishonor or trivialize the life or transition of one of the most inspiring leaders."
