After conquering books and movies, well-loved character Harry Potter is spanning the stage, says reports.

The world wide hit series revolving around the young wizard will take magic and wizardry to the UK in the form of stage plays. The play, set to open within two years, will not be a continuation of the 8-chapter series.

Instead, the play will be a prequel to 'Harry Potter'. USA Today quotes J.K. Rowling's Friday-released statement describing the production team's goal to create a play that shall "explore the previously untold story of Harry's early years as an orphan and outcast."

The script for the stage play will be courtesy of another writer and not the creator of 'Harry Potter.' Although it has been confirmed that J.K. Rowling will not be in charge of script, the playwright for the prequel has not yet been named.

J.K. Rowling will also be working with Sonia Friedman - one of the producers of 'The Book of Mormon' and 'Chimerica' as well as Colin Callender of 'Lucky Guy', 'The White Queen' and 'Dancing on the Edge'.

According to the Daily Mail, there have been several offers made to take 'Harry Potter' onto the stage but it was only Friedman and Callender's which had her convinced.

"It was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry's story to the stage," said J.K. Rowling.

The book has made millions of fans across the globe - selling over 450 million copies. 'Harry Potter' has also been translated to 77 other languages.

Harry's world hit theatres with Daniel Radcliffe playing the part while Rupert Grint and Emma Watson played pals 'Ron Weasley' and 'Heermoine Granger.' The Independent quotes that the 8-film adaptation of the book has made almost $8 billion at the international box office.

Warner Bros, the studio responsible for the movie adaptation will also be reportedly behind the soon-to-be stage adaptation.
