Latest news on seven-time Formula 1 race car world champion Michael Schumacher remains in critical condition and has been reported by doctors to be "fighting for his life."

Euronews reported that Neurosurgeon Stephan Chabardes said they carried out an emergency brain scan on Schumacher which revealed internal bleeding and injuries including contusions and lesions. They performed the first operation to eliminate extradural haematoma - outside the actual brain - to reduce pressure.

A recent update from Theguardian.com has informed us that Schumacher's condition has improved slightly following a second operation to reduce the swelling on his brain. During Tuesday's press conference at Grenoble hospital doctors reported the two-hour operation sought to reduce the haematoma on his brain. A scan conducted after the procedure showed a slight improvement, but they are still unable to say the former racing driver was out of danger.

The family proceeded with the second operation when a scan showed that one of haemotoma on the left side of the brain was larger and more accessible and could be eliminated without risk.

Schumacher has spent a second night at the hospital and his medical team are working "hour by hour" to save the racing legenda's life. Family members have rallied around Michael and French publication Paris Match says there are a number of serious complications due to the skiing accident that occurred in the French Alps. It has been reported that the helmet "exploded" into multiple pieces upon impact with a rock during the skiing excursion.

On Sunday morning, the 44 year old retired racing legend slammed his head on a rock while skiing off-piste snow where rockers are partly hidden by snow at the French Alpine resort of Meribel where he has a vacation home.

A number of colleagues and celebrities have reached out via social media to wish Schumacher a speedy recovery. One of which is Martin Brundle, former F1 driver tweeted, "Come on Michael, give us one of those race stints at pure qualifying pace to win through, like you used to. You can do it." Ralph Gilles has also said on twitter, "Thoughts & prayers going out to Michael Schumacher. Hoping he can pull through this."

Schumacher remains the most successful F1 driver with 91 race victories throughout a career that lasted more than two decades.
