Golfing sensation and former world #1 Rory McIlroy is coming off a rough year on the green, but things have already started improving in 2014. His girlfriend, Danish tennis star (and also a former world #1) Caroline Wozniacki, accepted the Irishman's marriage proposal.

Rory was obviously over-the-moon and wanted his fans all across the globe to know it. He tweeted the news along with a picture of the impressive rock he bought for his leading lady.

"Happy New Year everyone! I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!!" in a late night tweet.

Soon thereafter Wozniacki confirmed the exciting news.

"Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! ... I said YES!!!!"

Perhaps Wozniacki will now have a newfound hunger to finally breakthrough and capture a Grand Slam. Despite her success on the WTA tour, her success in Grand Slam Tournaments has been disappointing at best, choke artist-like, at worst. Her highest finish was runner-up at the US Open four years ago. At only 23 years of age expect this dry spell to be broken sooner rather than later.

McIlroy is also looking forward to claiming a championship victory in 2014. He previously captured the U.S. Open in 2011 and the PGA Championship in 2012. McIlroy was beset by inconsistency all year long and failed to win a single tournament, let alone one of golf's four majors.

"Mechanically my golf swing ... I fell into a couple of bad habits and I was trying to work myself out of it. It affects mental issues as well," McIlroy told the press during last October's Korean Open per Yahoo! Sports.

"Golf is a game of confidence and if you are confident it allows you to play better and freer ... with a free mind. Definitely nothing to do with equipment."

No one has had the opportunity to ask the couple when, and if, they will have children, but expect their potential offspring to be slightly athletic. Even if asked about baby plans, don't expect McIlroy to elaborate.

"My private life is private and I would like to keep it that way," Rory said.
