“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” has reportedly already started filming. The cast that was featured in the film’s original movie will be back to reprise their roles, in addition to new characters from the story’s source material.

Screen Rant confirmed that Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen in “Arrow,” will be part of the sequel as Casey Jones, the vigilante who wears a hockey mask. In addition to him, the unintelligent yet powerful duo, Bebop and Rocksteady, will also be part of the franchise’s second installment. Tyler Perry will be Baxter Stockman, while Brian Tee will be portraying a new and improved Shredder.

Megan Fox will be returning to reprise her role as April O’Neil. Laura Linney is among the new stars added to the cast, but her role remains unknown to date.

Apart from Shredder, it looks like the team will also have to face off with a new alien villain, reported Cinema Blend. General Krang, who is best described as a disembodied brain, will also be one of the sequel’s bad guys.

According to the report, a scene -- showing how Krang arrived on Earth -- was filmed. The insider revealed that he will enter Earth through a portal, with several people waiting for him at the other end, presumably as the alien villain’s welcoming committee.

Krang is actually an alien warlord of the Utroms from Dimension X. After he lost his body, he came to Earth and met yet another “TMNT” villain, Shredder. They collaborated and Shredder made the new body that Krang uses, in exchange for the latter’s high tech base, the Technodrome. Based on the source material for the sequel, when Krang planned to terraform Earth, Shredder reportedly teamed up with the Turtles to try to stop the General.

He made his first appearance in the “TMNT” franchise in episode 2 of the animated series, “Ninja Turtles” in 1987.

Concept art for Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady were actually leaked to the Internet, but Paramount Pictures has already taken them down, Cinema Blend noted. Apparently, those were their supposed looks, had the film makers decided to feature them in the first movie. Now, though, it looks like they will be making a grand entrance in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” as they will work hand-in-hand with Shredder and his Foot Clan.

What remains unclear, to date, is whether or not the studio will include a live-action version of Krang, with the use of practical effects, or by using 100% CGI (computer-generated imagery).

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2” will be hitting theaters on June 3, 2016.
