Rockstar Games has yet to release Grand Theft Auto 5 on the next-gen consoles or the PC but that hasn't stopped people from speculating about a potential release on iOS devices. This is likely due to the fact that there are already GTA 5-related apps, but just not the actual game.

The rumors surrounding a potential Xbox One or PlayStation 4 release have persisted for quite some time since the game was released on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles this fall. The game's release was coincidentally lined up almost parallel to the next-gen console releases. The GTA release was such a massive event that it ended up shattering more than a half dozen Guinness world records -- imagine how big it would have been if it was released just a bit later on the next-gen consoles as well.

But before we dive into the discussion about an iOS release, we'll have to wait and see when the next-gen release is going to be. Furthermore, we have yet to see a PC release and people have been just as anxious for that as they have been for the next-gen release.

To put the entire iOS GTA release into perspective, there's been a great deal of popular console games transferred to iOS devices -- most notably the iPad with a screen that is more comparable to a TV screen -- but these games have largely been limited to older ones such as GTA: San Andreas, which was a hit on the PlayStation 2. There are exceptions to this, such as Madden, although the iOS version for Madden is limited and the graphics are nowhere near even the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions.

In other related news, Rockstar Games may be introducing more online updates that would include content that the developers initially hoped to add to the game but ultimately couldn't. Rockstar North's art director, Aaron Garbut, recently hinted towards potential changes in the future.

"What I love about our GTA Online plans is that the game is no longer static. We can continue to add these things and evolve," he said.
