Zoe Saldana will star as the lead in NBC's four-hour miniseries Rosemary's Baby. The title was made most famous by the 1968 psychological film, which was written and directed by Roman Polanski, and starred Mia Farrow and Josh Cassavetes; but the mini-series will be an adaption of the 1967 horror-suspense novel of the same name, written by Ira Levin.

Saldana will play Rosemary, a young wife and soon-to-be mother who has just moved to a charming Paris apartment building, which has a dark history. She suspects that there is something strange about her neighbors, and eventually comes to believe that her husband has made a pact with them, hoping to use her offspring as a human sacrifice in order to further her husband's career.

"Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin's infamous novel," said Quinn Taylor, Executive Vice President, Movies, Miniseries and International Co-Productions, NBC Entertainment. "With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event mini-series is off to a great start."

Saldana, Cisely Saldana and Mariel Saldana will be producing the film with Joshua Maurer, Alix Witlin and David Stern. James Wong, American Horror Story: Coven writer, along with Scott Abbott, will write the screenplay. Treme director Agnieszka Holland will direct the miniseries.

No statements have been made about who will play Saldana's screen husband and her occult-dabbling neighbors, but filming for the small screen feature is set to begin in Paris later this month. Also, the broadcasting date has yet to be announced for the micro-series.

This summer, Saldana will appear in the highly anticipated film Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as a sequel to the box office hit Avatar (2009).
