New York City's annual Afropunk Festival has announced its initial lineup for this summer.

The celebration of music, art and food is set to return to Brooklyn's Commodore Barry Park from Aug. 22-23.

The upcoming flagship fest's most noteworthy performers are Lauryn Hill, Lenny Kravitz and Kelis.

Danny Brown, Thundercat, Suicidal Tendencies, Goldlink, Raury, Kaytranada, Kele, Petite Noir, Lion Babe, Jesse Boykins III, Adia Victoria, Sam Dew, Brenmar and more will also take the stage.

There will be a pre-festival event, Afropunk Fancy Dress Ball, on Aug. 21 featuring Grace Jones, Cakes Da Killa and Mike Q on Aug. 21.

The ball will raise money for the Afropunk Global Initiative, which aims to create "a holistic, democratic and enlightened representation of people of color within all facets of society with the goal to create unique programming that encourages diversity in media."

Last year, nearly 60,000 people attended the festival to see headliner D'Angelo, as well as Ice T's Body Count, Trash Talk and Lianne La Havas.

Consequently, Afropunk NYC is incorporating a paid and earned ticket program to accommodate growing crowds. In addition to paid entry to the festival, attendees can sign up for the Afropunk Army, which gives an opportunity to volunteer within the community in exchange for an earned ticket.

The NYC lineup announcement follows Afropunk Paris, which featured Zoe Kravitz's band, Lolawolf, as well as Willow and Jaden Smith among others. A second festival is scheduled to take place in Atlanta in October. Tickets will be available here.
