Singer Fergie spoke to Glam Belleza Latina in an interview for its Summer 2015 issue about her Hispanic heritage, her love of music icon Selena and her son, Axel.

The Black Eyed Peas singer -- who is of a mixed background which includes Irish, Scottish, English, Mexican and Native American -- explained how she feels to be part Latina. The 40-year-old singer's great-grandmother was Mexican.

"I'm very proud to be part Mexican," she said. "I'm one of a growing number of Hispanics in America, but you wouldn't necessarily know it. This is becoming the norm, and it's the beauty of our melting pot."

This pride is something the singer includes in her makeup routine and like several other Latino celebrities, such as Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lopez, it's thanks to Selena Quintañilla, reports Glamour. She told the magazine how influential the late Tejano singer was in her style.

"One of my beauty idols was Selena [Quintanilla], who had the most beautiful lips," the singer said. "I overline my lips a bit -- I completely admit it. I really like the look!"

The singer also spoke about motherhood and how that has affected her music and staying fit.

"I see the world through Axl's eyes," she said "So it's all about good times and good vibes. With all the negativity in the world, I want to do something positive."

The singer also discusses how she stays in shape and how she used dancing as an outlet to get her pre-pregnancy body after having her son Axel, who will be two this august.

"We built a dance studio in our house -- it's the best gift I've ever given myself," she told the magazine. "I didn't want to be awkward and embarrassed in front of people, so I worked the kinks out at home."
