Mike Vogel, one of the stars of "Under The Dome," has revealed that the premiere episode of Season 3 left the cast shocked and that the new season will be a lot darker than the previous ones.

The show left off with the residents of Chester's Mill, who are living under the dome, trying to get out through an underground tunnel. Barbie, Vogel's character, is separated from girlfriend Julia, who is portrayed by Rachelle Lefevre, and fans are left up in the air about whether they make it out or not.

"The theme of this year is 'the enemy within,'" Vogel told Yahoo! TV. "There is something powerful and terrible happening within the people of Chester's Mill," he explains. "Right off the bat -- starting from first two-hour premiere -- there was a ton of stuff that shocked us."

The theme of "enemy within" is especially true for Barbie, stated Vogel. Not only will his relationship with Julia be tested but so will his place status as an anti-hero.

"We're getting to go to a lot darker places than we've been able to go into in the past," said Vogel. "We've seen Barbie be the anti-hero and trying to make amends for a lot of his demons in the past and his military days. This year, we tap into the dark side of him."

Season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is going to answer a lot of fans burning questions about the dome and bring about a lot of mythology.

"Season three is more like season two, because it's more chilling and horrifying, scarier, spookier," said executive producer Neal Baer. "It's also the season where we do tell you -- and we promise to tell you -- why the dome came down and who or what's behind it."

Such revelations may make some fans think that the show will be coming to an end but, according to Baer, that won't be the case.

"Our intentions are to tell a great story every summer for as long as the audience wants to watch the citizens of Chester's Mill," he said.

New this season to the cast is "CSI" alum Marg Helgenberger, who will take on the role of the show's newest villain Christina Price. "Under The Dome" premieres June 25, at 9 p.m. on CBS.
