Dr. Ben Carson was voted as the top presidential candidate in a straw poll conducted at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, Colorado, over the weekend.

The famous neurosurgeon received 26 percent of the 871 votes cast in the poll, which was sponsored by the Washington Examiner. Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina came in second place with 23 percent of the vote, while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker received 22 percent and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas garnered 11 percent.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum received the biggest disappointed, earning just 2 percent of the vote. Likewise, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee got only one percent, which was less than Donald Trump, who received 2-percentage points.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who did not speak at the conference, earned only four votes. Meanwhile, former New York Gov. George Pataki was the only contender to receive zero percent of the vote, noted Breitbart.

During a speech delivered at the conference, Carson boasted about his non-political career background, which he said gives him an advantage over his competitors in the 2016 presidential race.

"The professional politicians say you can't do it because you're not a politician," he said. "I say I can do it because I'm not a politician."

"I think it's too early to get behind any one candidate but it's not too early to rule out candidates who represent the same old, same old in politics," one attendee named Karen told The Washington Examiner. "People who are big money who will impose their will on people. Jeb Bush needs to be rejected by the Republican party. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me thrice, it's all done. Each time Bush has been elected it's thwarted everything we stand for as Republicans."

"From what I've seen so far, Scott Walker is the only candidate with the skills to lead," said Ladonna Lee at the summit. "In Wisconsin he helped the economy a lot, he helped workers. He's the only one who really understands the Constitution."
