With Microsoft now owning the makers of 'Gears of War,' it is more than likely that the title will never be able to debut on Sony's next gen game console.

A report by Polygon says that Epic Games, the creator of the 'Gears of War' game franchise is now owned by the Xbox-maker. The acquisition means that Microsoft now owns all of Epic Games' existing and future games, including the Xbox exclusive, 'Gears of War.'

The future of the 'Gears of War' franchise is now in the hands of Microsoft Vancouver, now known as Black Tusk Studios, says CBC News. According to Polygon, Black Tusk Studios will reportedly work with former Epic Games executive producer and director of production, Rod Fergusson.

"I'm extremely excited to be joining Black Tusk Studios to oversee development on the Gears of War franchise," Fergusson told Polygon.

"I've been privileged to work on a lot of great games with a lot of great teams, but Gears has had the most impact on me professionally and personally, so this really feels like a homecoming. I can't wait to share more with you all soon," the former Epic Games exec added.

In a report by CBC News, Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer reassures fans of the 'Gears of War' franchise that Black Tusk Studios is ready to take on the faved game, thanks to its "world class team."

"This franchise, and these fans, are part of the soul of Xbox. By acquiring this franchise, Microsoft Studios will continue to offer them more of their favorite games and entertainment experiences from the 'Gears of War' universe," Spencer told CBC News.

There is no news yet regarding the release of a new 'Gears of War' Xbox game but fans are expecting Microsoft to dish out a better game for their next gen game console - or at least one that's better than 'Gears of War: Judgment,' fans echo out on Polygon.
