On Sunday, July 12 Eisenhower Park in Long Island, New York will light up with a mixture of Colombian folklore, culture and gastronomy as thousands will celebrate the South American country's independence as well as their Colombian pride.

The festival also called "Festival Independencia Orgullo Colombiano" (Independence Festival/ Colombian Pride) will celebrate its rich heritage with the authentic music styles of Sanjuanero, Cumbia, Guacherna and Salsa.

The musical talent of singer/actor Jhonny Rivera, Grupo Niche, and "symbols of the salsa world" Fruko y sus Tesos will perform among other talented artists.

Fruko y sus Tesos, a salsa group from Colombia that is hugely popularity throughout Latin America, was formed in 1970 by Ernesto Fruko Estrada who modeled it after the New York salsa sound of the Fania All-Stars, according to Last.fm. "A favorite of Salsa DJ's around the globe. Some have referred to Fruko y sus Tesos as Colombia's most important export."

"El Preso" is one of Colombia's most widely recognized and beloved songs.

Grupo Niche was one of Colombia's first major tropical acts in the '80s transitioned to romantic lyrics in the '90s, leaving behind their traditional songs based on social issues.

While getting into the rhythms, festival-goers can feast on Colombian cuisine, featuring "a fusion of many cultures" including traditional, regional dishes prepared with authentic ingredients, including lechona, llanera meat, empanadas, arepas, salpicon, cholados, among others.

Colombia's rich art history and folklore is a huge part of the country's core and will also be on display during the festival.

"The presence of our ambassadors of Colombian art and the transmission of their artistic skills while producing their artwork during the festival is a unique experience that will fill us with pride during this event," according to the festival's official website.
