Looks like "Gomie" is alive and well, and he is running for political office.

The New York Daily News reports that former "Breaking Bad" actor Steven Michael Quezada will be running for the country commissioner seat in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Quezada, who played DEA agent Steven "Gomie" Gomez on the AMC hit show "Breaking Bad," said that he will make a formal announcement Tuesday that he will be running for the Bernalillo County Commission seat. When asked why he is running for office, Quezada said that he felt he can make a difference in the district.

He stated, "I think I bring a new face to the Democratic Party. We need to reach out to our young people -- the young Chicanos, the young Latinos -- and get them involved in this process and let them know this is important."

According to the Washington Post, Quezada grew up poor with four siblings, a mother who was a health care worker and a father who was a war veteran. Two years ago, when Quezada took a seat on the Albuquerque school board, many people criticized the move as a publicity stunt.

Upon hearing this, Quezada said, "I don't need publicity. I'm on the No. 1 TV show in the world. The last thing I need is publicity," adding, "if I can bring some national exposure and some national attention to our struggles here in New Mexico, then that's a good thing."

Quezada said that he wants to address the issue of overpopulation in Albuquerque schools, to revitalize downtrodden neighborhoods, and to bring jobs to communities.

Elections are scheduled next year. There are three other candidates running for office.
