The second public betas for the upcoming El Capitan OS X 10.11 and iOS 9 are out. Apple has released them on Wednesday, just two weeks after the company made the first betas public.

The second public betas available for testing are actually the fourth developer preview the Cupertino-based company came out with, noted 9to5mac. On Tuesday, Apple came out with the new developer preview, just one day ahead of the public beta release.

The current OS X El Capitan preview build has the build number 15A226f while the iOS 9 is now in build number 13A4305g.

According to Mac Rumors, there were no major changes in the second betas released. For the OS X El Capitan, Apple concentrated on adding performance improvement fixes and removing bugs that came with the update. Not much outward changes were seen with the second beta release.

Meanwhile, the iOS 9 saw the return of the Home Sharing feature for music. This element in the music app was removed in the iOS 8.4 version. The beta build also maintained the new News app that the Tim Cook-led firm first introduced in the first beta preview. This News app is available to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, reported Venture Beat.

What's new?

As noted on Mac Rumors, the second public beta for the iOS 9 is the first beta to offer support to Apple's music device, the iPod touch.

Other updates include a fix on allowing the volume buttons to act as a camera shutter as well as a rebooted version of the Notes app.

The public beta will also allow testers to try the split-screen functionality feature in the iPad that will make any multi-tasker happy to use.

How to participate in the Beta program

While both OS are available for public testing, those who are interested to try out the beta versions must register at the Apple Beta Software Program. For those who are already signed in, one can simply head to his devices' Settings, go to General and click on Software Update.

Apple has already made clear that the public betas are not the final form of the upcoming iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan. Many of the current features might not make the final cut and some that are not even available in the preview build might be included.

OS X El Capitan and iOS 9 were first unveiled to the public at the WWDC Event in San Francisco. Both OS are expected for a fall release.
