On the French island Reunion, a man found the wreckage of an airplane this morning that could possibly be linked to Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

CNN reported the man, who lives on the island, found the wreckage early this morning after seeing it in the water. Other witnesses said the object seemed to be in the water for quite some time as it was "covered in shells."

The object, which believed to be a wing flap, was taken to shore and will be examined by French officials. According to the Telegraph, Xavier Tytelman, an expert in aviation security and former military pilot, believes the wreckage is a part of Flight 370.

"I've been studying hundreds of photos and speaking to colleagues," Tytelman said. "We all think it is likely that the wing is that of a Boeing 777 -- the same plane as MH370.

"Police in Reunion examining the wreckage say that it looks like it's been in the water for around a year, which again would fit with MH370. We can't say for certainty, but we do think there is a chance that this is it," he added.

On his Twitter page, Tytelman sent a tweet explaining how this debris is similar to a Boeing 777, the same type of plane as MH370:

Here is an up-close look at the object:

It is too early to tell if the wreckage is linked to Flight 370.

On March 8, 2014, MH370 disappeared without a trace shortly after taking off from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The plane was bound for China with 239 people aboard. Officials still don't know why the plane was off course over the sea between Vietnam and Malaysia. Last year, the Malaysian government officially declared the loss of the plane an accident, and all 239 passengers and crew are declared dead.

Rumors and conspiracy theories run rampant about the fate of the doomed flight. From the plane landing in Diego Garcia to terrorists hijacking the plane and taking it to an unknown place.

The families of the victims are still hoping to see their love ones safe and alive.
