Jagex, the company behind the "Transformers Universe" has recently announced that the game will be officially released in summer of this year. Mark Gherhard, CEO of Jagex posted on the company's website, "So, here's the big news. We are 100% set to launch Transformers Universe this Summer, and will be progressively inviting an ever wider portion of the BETA community to enjoy the game before opening it to the rest of the world this summer."

According to Gherhard, the "Transformers Universe is a MOTA game, which stands for massively online tactical action.

Gamers from around the world can choose a faction, either go into battle under the flag of the Autobots or the Decepticons, and command their squad of bots in strategic online battles.

The type of bots players can choose vary according to what type or class of machine they can transform into. The game's executive producer Kris Jones told Eurogamer, "Some people want to be tanks, some people want to be motorbikes, some people want to be sports cars, some people want to be an SUV. It's pretty much down to the person."

Jones added, "If you pick one class you're not going to get stuck with one vehicle. And that's something we plan on building up over years." In fact, the game features hundreds of customizable parts for each bot a player chooses. They'll also be able to pick from a collection of Transformers Hasbro has under its belt.

The overall strength and capabilities of the players' bots will depend on which class they belong to and their customized parts.

Gherhard noted that additional details and other major features of the game will be further revealed through the game's website, following the release of its BETA program. For now, players can log-on and sign-up to choose their faction and commander name.

"Transformers Universe" will take place in the timeline set by the "Transformers: Prime" animated series. In the television program, the two main factions, the Autobots and Decepticions, have landed on Earth and are fighting for supremacy.
