Microsoft and Crystal Dynamics promised more freedom and a larger open-world game in their sequel to "Tomb Raider" 2013.

New Xbox gameplay footages of "Rise of the Tomb Raider" was presented to an audience at Microsoft's Gamescom 2015 press conference. The two clips showcased an edgier Lara Croft fitted with new weaponry and immersed in diverse yet vibrant environments.

According to Game Spot, Lara Croft will mostly be in Syria and in the Siberian Taiga throughout the game as she races against time to usurp the plans of the Order of Trinity, an ancient underground organization.

Aside from stating that the game's story will be less linear than its predecessor, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" developers specified that gamers will have free reigns as to how Croft will approach each task. Gamers can play with stealth or they can choose to acquire new weapons and combat skills to burst their way through enemy territories.

One such weapon is the hunting knife, which allows Croft to do sneaky take-down moves towards unassuming adversaries. In addition, she can now use bottles as weapons to go along with her bow, Game Rant noted.

Polygon echoed these observations and went on to point out that Croft can now kill multiple opponents with her new bow. She can also wield an AK-47, which adds to her guerilla heroine role in "Rise of the Tomb Raider." The videos also showed her under water as well as on top of cabins.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" will also bring back a key feature in the classic Tomb Raider games, which wasn't given much priority in its predecessor. Grander tombs will be a key component in the game's narrative and will present Croft and gamers with equally challenging obstacles and puzzles.

As for the footage, the first video shows Croft's base camp inventory wherein gamers can customize Croft to suit their desired play style. She is also seen maneuvering through a jungle encampment while using her stealth moves to evade detection.

The second video is an action-packed montage starting with Croft's truck being taken down by a helicopter. The clip then continues to show her climbing rocks, exploring tombs, and swimming through obstacles. It ends with the game's tag-line "Discover The Legend Within" and its title with the release date.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider" will have a Nov. 13 release on Xbox One and Xbox 360 as seen in the video below, however, the Xbox website is showing a Nov. 10 release date, instead. It will make its way to PC in the first quarter of 2016 and will be available to PlayStation 4 users later that year.
