After 2014's "X-Men: Days of Future Past," fans just knew it wouldn't be the end of the cinematic relationship between Wolverine and Professor X.

The actors portraying them, Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, have been a staple in all X-Men ensemble movies except 2011's "X-Men: First Class." The two have worked with the film franchise for fifteen years starting with 2000's "X-Men."

To enumerate, the pair has appeared in four "X-Men" movies together and the movie count will soon climb up to five as Patrick Stewart has recently confirmed his involvement in 2017's "Wolverine 3."

When asked about the possibility of the "Old Man Logan" storyline being adapted to film, Stewart indicated that Professor X will be appearing in the third Wolverine spin-off movie, whichever route the film plans to take.

"I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me," Stewart told Collider.

Stewart then teased about looking forward to seeing Jackman "getting old," which will make Professor X look younger on screen.

"And the idea of an old Wolverine - I'm really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I'm hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he'll make me look better if that's the case," he quipped.

The idea of an older Wolverine and the suspicion that "Wolverine 3" will in fact adapt the "Old Man Logan" first sprung out from Jackman himself.

During last month's San Diego Comic Con, Jackman was present at 20th Century Fox's Hall H panel where he said the next solo "Wolverine" will be the last film that will feature him donning the iconic claws. As to what storyline would give him a proper send off, Jackman had this to say:

"I've got three words for you guys - Old Man Logan. Read into that what you will."

According to Sean O'Connell from Cinema Blend, the actor's remark sounded off as a joke before anything else. The site also stated why "Old Man Logan" wouldn't be such a smooth sailing project for 20th Century Fox.

Most of the source material's main characters like Hulk, Red Skull, and Hawkeye are owned by Marvel Studios.

Needless to say, this doesn't mean "Old Man Logan" has indefinitely been junked as it presents the most suitable storyline for not only a Wolverine send off but a Hugh Jackman send off as well. Who better to teach Logan about coming to grips with age than his old pal and mentor, Professor X?
