Nina Dobrev 2015 News: 'The Vampire Dairies' Star in 'The Final Girls' Trailer [Watch]
Nina Dobrev has officially joined the list of big screen scream queens. The trailer for Dobrev's new film "The Final Girls" was released online.
Dobrev stars opposite "American Horror Story" star Taissa Farmiga and Malin Akerman in a modern take on the slasher film genre, reported Variety.
In the film, which screened at the SXSW Festival earlier this year, stars Farmiga as the daughter of an actress, played by Akerman, who ends up being transported into her mom's film with her friends. Dobrev, Adam DeVine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat and Alexander Ludwig star as Farmiga's friends.
According to MTV, the trailer shows the cast, transported into the film within a film, called "Camp Bloodbath," as they become targets of the inner film's murderous villain and have to work together to make it out alive.
The trailer also showcases the film's comedic refief, which includes mocking '80s pop culture and poking fun at current teenage habits like taking selfies in inappropriate situations.
In an interview with Collider, Dobrev's castmates agreed that "The Vampire Diaries" star would most likely survive being stuck in a horror movie. During the interview, the 26-year-old described her character Vicki as a b*tch, but explained that she will be the character to get things done.
At the Los Angeles screening of the film, according to the Inquisitr, Dobrev revealed that she's looking forward to exploring a variety of different genres now that she has ended her run on the CW series.
"For now I'm going to try doing film and doing different kinds of roles maybe," Dobrev said. "Hopefully, an action, drama, period piece, anything that I haven't done that I'm trying to tackle, for the challenge of it."
"The Final Girls" will be released in theaters on Oct. 9. Watch the trailer below.
