2016 GOP presidential rivals Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Donald Trump are set to team up next month in D.C. to fight against the Iran nuclear deal.

Back in July, President Obama announced that the U.S. and five other world powers reached a historic agreement with Iran, which limits its nuclear program and eases economic sanctions on the Islamic republic. As a result, Iran will be granted access to billions of dollars in relief.

Critics, however, argue that Iran cannot be trusted and will use the money to continue to build nuclear weapons. The majority of Republican leaders in the House and Senate have also promised to vote down the nuclear deal once the resolution is presented for a vote in mid-September.

In an effort to block the deal from being approved by Congress, Cruz and Trump will hold a protest rally on Capitol Hill on Sept. 9.

According to a Cruz campaign aide, the rally is being held "to call on members of Congress to defeat the catastrophic deal that the Obama Administration has struck with the Islamic Republic of Iran," reports The Wall Street Journal.

Cruz, a vocal opponent of the agreement, also invited the GOP front-runner to join him at the anti-deal rally, which is also being sponsored by the Center for Security Policy and the Zionist Organization of America.

Trump also confirmed on Thursday that he will be attending the protest, telling reporters, "We are talking to Ted Cruz about doing something very big over the next two weeks in Washington. It is essentially a protest over the totally incompetent deal with Iran."

Tea Party Patriots, one of the groups sponsoring the rally, later announced the rally was scheduled to be held around the time Congress is expected to vote on the deal.

Back in July, the Texas senator said that the Obama administration will "become the leading financier of terrorism against America in the world," during a July 15 Fox News interview.

He added, "I've heard this referred to before as the 'Jihadist Stimulus Bill.'"

He also warned that if the deal goes into effect, the Obama administration will become "the world's leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism," reports CNN.
