It's been eons since Apple updated its Apple TV set-top streamer, and every Apple event in the past few cycles we believe there's a new one finally on the way, just to end up disappointed.

But this time is different (we swear it!): According to rumors in the Apple blogosphere, rounded up by ComputerWorld, there indeed will be a new Apple TV device unveiled at the big iPhone 6S event on Sept. 9. And it will have a release date sometime within the same month.

And it will cost $200. Or maybe a little less (like $150). But it's not going to be cheap, and since it's been so long since the last true hardware-and-software update for Apple TV, this costly box sure as heck better be packed with amazing features.

Luckily enough, rumor has it that it will indeed bring something new to the table, although what exactly that is still remains to be seen.

A good bet is a new, redesigned Apple TV remote, possibly featuring motion sensitive controls, a touchpad, and enhanced wireless connectivity. Some are expecting the official remote to be accompanied by one or various bluetooth game controllers too, a la Amazon Fire TV.

Siri functionality is also a probability, though how much of a "home hub" the Apple TV will be is up for grabs. Expect some less-sexy improvements to the actual hardware as well, like an A8 system on a chip, more storage, and a retooled OS with an App Store.

Less likely is the long-rumored Apple TV OTT (over-the-top) streaming service, which supposedly would include a programming bundle featuring a mix of big broadcast and cable channels to rival PlayStation TV and DISH Network's Sling TV.

Some have even said it will include the holy grail of the OTT industry in its quest to outmatch cable giants: live local broadcast affiliates. Others, like Sling TV's CEO Roger Lynch, disagree, telling Latin Post earlier this year "there's not a chance" Apple pulls that off.

The big event is Sept. 9, so stay tuned to Latin Post Tech for updates before and after we find out if there's even really a new Apple TV this year!
