Fifty Shades of Grey fans cannot wait to see Jamie Dornan on the big screen as Christian Grey. Some people, like the creators of Once Upon a Time, however, would love to see him on the small screen.

During an interview with Access Hollywood, Edward Kitsis, creator and executive producer of ABC's Once Upon a Time, said that the show hoped Dornan would return for season 3.

"Last year, when he did 'Welcome to Storybrooke' for us, it was fantastic to have him come back," he said.

This season, however, Dornan was too busy shooting Fifty Shades of Grey and The Fall, his BBC Drama.

"He's a friend of ours," Kitsis continued. "He's a friend of the show, and unfortunately, this year he goes right from the movie to 'The Fall,' so there was no -- because they were shooting ['Fifty Shades'] in Vancouver..."

Adam Horowitz, co-creator and executive producer, explained that Once Upon a Time wanted to have Dornan's Sherriff Graham/the Huntsman as a recurring character.

"...his part was always conceived as that seven episode arc in the first season... with the hope we could bring him back here and there as we've done, but ... it's gratifying that everyone seems to have responded so well to his talent," Horowitz said.

The producers would not immediately reveal what plans they had for Sheriff Graham but said they would after the season finale.

"And then we will tell you exactly what we wanted to do, and then you will be so bummed that we didn't get to do it, and then you will have the same look on your face that I do right now, which is sadness."

Although Dornan will not return to Once Upon a Time this season, fans might be able to catch him in the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer sooner than expected. This week, Dana Brunetti, Fifty Shades of Grey producer, said via Facebook that this was the movie's last week of filming, and he left location last night. The film has reportedly been ahead of schedule. Kitsis and Horowitz will be sure to check out the trailer because as Kitsis said, they "are his biggest fans."

"We're very, very happy for him," Horowitz said. "Obviously... we'd love to have him if he ever wanted to come back, but he is quite busy right now, and rightfully so. He's very talented."

Fifty Shades of Grey hits theaters Feb. 13, 2015. Once Upon a Time's midseason premiere is on March 9 at 8/7c.
