Call of Duty: Black Ops III has always been known to be a violent game. It did something no other game has accomplished in Australia.

According to Attack of the Fanboy, Call of Duty: Black Ops III is the first game in Australia to receive a R18+ rating. It marks the first time that the annual shooter series has received a R18+ rating. The previous installment of the game was rated MA15+.

According to the Australian Classification, the reason that the game is rated R18+ is because of the high violence impact, as well as a strong impact theme. The game will include many violent acts such as shots to the head, body parts being blown up due to grenades, and foul language.

Australia has been known to censor and even ban games from the country for violent content. Before 2013, anything above the MA15+ rating would have resulted in a game being banned or heavily censored. In the past, games like the Mortal Kombat series were banned from sale in Australia.

The country made headlines last year when Grand Theft Auto V was banned, following complaints about violence toward women. Target and Kmart in Australia pulled the game from their stores, after three female victims of domestic violence set up a petition that collected over 40,000 signatures. To this day, Grand Theft Auto V is still banned.

Past games like Manhunt 2, Grand Theft Auto IV and The Witcher 2 were at one point banned from the country. Eventually the ban was lifted, though developers were forced to edit parts of the games.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III will be in stores in the United States on Nov. 6 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. The game is a sequel to the 2012 game Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
