"Doctor Who" star Jenna Coleman has left the show to play Queen Victoria in an ITV miniseries.

According to Mirror, Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald in the hit TV show "Doctor Who," will leave after accepting a major role to play Queen Victoria in an eight-part miniseries called "Victoria." She is the longest-serving Doctor Who assistant since the series was rebooted in 2005. It is assumed she already filmed her final scenes and will make her last appearance before the Christmas special.

In an interview with Radio Times, when asked if she was leaving "Doctor Who," she said, "You're in 'Doctor Who' knowing it will never last.

"It's constantly regenerating, so you want to make your time count and enjoy the adventure for the fleeting time you're here."

According to IGN, ITV will not be making "any announcements about casting" anytime soon. But, it's already known Coleman will play the role of Queen Victoria. Sources say Coleman being cast as the queen had been a secret. ITV hopes with the miniseries they will receive the same ratings as "Downton Abbey," which is entering its final season.

Mirror reports the show will cost over £10 million. So far, Coleman is the only actor or actress confirmed for the series. ITV also announced that "Victoria" will start fiming in the United Kingdom in late September.

"Victoria" will be based on a novel by Daisy Goodwin and will tell the story of how a rebellious teenager became one of the longest-reigning monarchs in British history. As of now, there is no release date.

"Doctor Who" Season 9 premieres on Sept. 19. It is not known if Coleman's character will be killed off or simply be written out. There is also no word on who will replace Coleman on the show.
