Former Los Angelez Lakers star Lamar Odom continues his journey towards a hopeful complete healing after his tragic suspected drug overdose two weeks ago in Las Vegas, Nevada. Just recently, rumors claim that the former NBA player is slowly improving but is still having problems with his kidneys that are apparently not functioning.

Odom is still on a dialysis machine, People magazine reports. His current condition still doesn't suggest that he can already survive a kidney transplant, which might be the only way for him to be off the dialysis machine.

"It's two steps forward, then a step back, but it does feel like some progress is being made, little by little. There's still a black cloud, like, 'Okay, what's next?'" a source reportedly close to the Kardashian family told People.

"The pneumonia was a huge setback, and now there's worry about permanent scarring of the lungs. His kidneys are still not functioning correctly, but he's nowhere near strong enough to even think of a transplant, so he's on dialysis," the source added.

Odom, who was just recently transferred at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where he was in a four-day coma, has vastly improved health-wise despite having other medical issues.

Apparently, Odom can already follow a few directions slowly. However, the source told People that Odom might never return back to the way he was before being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel a couple of weeks ago.

"He has wrecked his body, so it'll take time to figure out how well he can come back. But everyone knows that he'll never be the same as he was before this happened. There will always be lasting effects, and doctors are just trying to minimize them," the source told the publication.

Furthermore, as the athlete continues to heal from a previous medical surgery, as reported by E! News, his wife Khloe Kardashian remains to be by his side.

The reality star apparently retracted her divorce from Odom and just had one outing since Odom's hospitalization to attend her sister Kim Kardashian West's baby shower last Sunday.

Meanwhile, it is believed that Odom has been in a tough place as he continues to fight for his life. People reports that it is still unknown when or how the athlete will be able to recover.

"Really, Lamar is lucky to be alive, and everyone knows that. We all feel like he is being kept alive for some greater purpose. No one knows how he'll continue to heal, or what his capabilities will be, but he's alive, and that's what matters right now. That's what counts," the insider told People.
