Famed TV series writer Shonda Rhimes recently opened up about her personal life in light of her latest memoir, "Year of Yes," released this Tuesday. In her book, Rhimes talked about her being more open to different types of activities including those out of her comfort zones.

The Hollywood life had been good to the "Scandal" writer so far as most of her work, including writing ABC's hit series "Grey's Anatomy" and "How To Get Away With Murder," were all success stories. Rhimes' recent interview with NPR revealed that her personal life is also a successful one filled with a lot of saying "yes" to things.

Rhimes revealed that she is not the type of person that goes out a lot and is just usually into routine daily activities such as working and going home. However, she reveals that now, she is more inclined to saying "yes" to things.

"My oldest sister said to me, 'You never say yes to anything.' And by that she meant I never accept any invitations," Rhimes told NPR.

"I never go anywhere. I never do anything. All I did was go to work and come home. And she was right. My life had gotten really small. Once I sort of realized that she was right, I was going to say yes to all the things that scared me," she added.

So now, Rhimes has in fact tried to even go out and attend Hollywood parties as her career demands it very so often. Not only that, Rhimes also revealed how she said yes in spending more quality time with her children and taking everything into perspective including her health.

In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres last Monday, Rhimes revealed that she had a recent breakthrough in her life and realized that she must pay more attention to her health.

"I took off my shoes, I pulled out my book, I went to buckle the seat belt and it wouldn't buckle, and I thought to myself, 'Well, something's wrong with the seat belt. It's broken,'" she told DeGeneres as quoted by the Chicago Tribune.

"And it wasn't the seat belt, it was me. And I thought well, I can get a seat belt extender ... or I could die and not have a seat belt extender and maybe the plane will crash or I fly out of my seat when we take off, and I decided that I would risk it and just fly out of my seat because I wasn't going to say anything."

Chicago Tribune reports that Rhimes already lost 100 pounds. "Year of Yes" will be out in the market, Tuesday.
