SELF Magazine took things too far when they posted a photo of a brain cancer survivor under their column labeled as "Lame" and made fun of the way she was dressed.

The brain cancer survivor is Monika Allen, who was photographed alongside her friend Taramae Baize as running participants in the Los Angeles Marathon. The two sported red and blue tutus for the event in honor of their Glam Runner charity that sells tutus and raises money for young women empowerment.

SELF Magazine got a hold of the photograph and contacted Allen for permission to feature the photo in their latest issue. Naturally, Allen agreed. Little did she know her photo would be used to mock and ridicule her sense of style.

The health and fitness magazine wrote, "A racing tutu epidemic has struck NYC's Central Park, and it's all because people think these froufrou skirts make you run faster," the column reads. "Now, if you told us they made people run from you faster, maybe we would believe it."

Shocked by SELF Magazine's harsh comments on her wardrobe, Allen took to her Facebook Glam Runner page to express her dislike.

"Excited to see our tutus in SELF Magazine...but shocked to see that running tutus are classified as lame. Especially considering the fact that this picture is from last year's LA Marathon when Glam Runner founders Tara and Monika ran together as superheroes...because Monika was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and running a marathon in the middle of a year of chemo."

Allen and Baize started Glam Runner in 2011 and since then have produced about 2,000 tutus. They have been able to raise $5,600 to Girls on the Run, a nonprofit charity that prepares young girls for a 5K race.

SELF Magazine editor-in-chief Lucy Danzinger has since gone on record with USA Today and apologized for the magazine's poor judgment.

"I am personally mortified. I had no idea that Monika had been through cancer. It was an error. It was a stupid mistake. We shouldn't have run the item."

Despite their efforts to appease the scandal, SELF Magazine continues to receive backlash. Better luck next time, SELF.
