Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were pleased last night when "Jimmy Kimmel Live" debuted the first trailer for "Captain America: Civil War," accompanied by an appearance by the two headlining stars on the show.

According to Deadline, Kimmel brought out both Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. just before they showed the first trailer for the third installment in the "Captain America" franchise, which leaks over into the larger Marvel Universe and finally brings Spider-Man into the fold.

The film is based off several comic book crossovers from 2006 and 2007. The film follows Captain America (Evans) as he goes underground to avoid government control, after world leaders come together to try to regulate superheroes around the globe.

The trailer starts out with Captain greeting an old friend, who had been previously brainwashed. The new character's name is Bucky (Sebastian Stan), and the two heroes know each other from a time long forgotten.

Captain America's friendship with Bucky and his resistance ot the regulation movement brings him into conflict with onetime friend and ally Iron Man (Downey Jr.). In one particularly emotional clip in the trailer, Iron Man and Captain appear on the brink of a major battle with each other.

"But he's my friend," Captain says.

"So was I," Iron Man responds, just before they start their epic fight.

The trailer also introduced Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) in what can only be described as a truly authentic uniform, pulled directly from his depiction in the comics.

Although many of the standalone Marvel films have featured some degree of crossover storylines, this one seems to be really pulling everyone back into the fight, as the superheroes fall into an epic battle with one another. The only heroes missing from the fray will be Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

Fans can also rest assured that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) will be featured in the next trailer to come out for the film.

The film debuts on May 6, 2016. Watch the trailer below.
