Gennady Golovkin's camp is hoping that World Boxing Council middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will decide to face "Triple G" in a title unification fight in September.

Golovkin, who owns a perfect 34-0 record with 31 stoppage wins, is the mandatory challenger to Canelo's WBC middleweight title. WBC allowed both fighters to face different opponents in their next fights but will have to collide later this year if they win against their respective foes in their coming bouts.

When asked about the highly-anticipated showdown, Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez, admitted that they are getting mixed signals over the past several days, but he is still hoping that the Mexican boxing superstar will decide to defend his title against his fellow middleweight superstar.

"I sure hope that Canelo lives up to everything he has said and everything he has guaranteed to the WBC and everything he has promised his fans but that is up to Canelo and not up to us," Sanchez told BoxingScene.

Alvarez, who improved to 46-1-1 with 32 knockouts after winning against Miguel Cotto in November last year, recently insisted that he is not ready to fight at 160 pounds, reiterating that he will only face Golovkin at 155.

However, Golovkin and his camp are also firm on their stance that the fight should happen at 160 -- the middleweight weight limit. Sanchez pointed out that Canelo does not have the leverage because Golovkin is the mandatory challenger, which means Triple G will be crowned champion if Alvarez does not agree to face him.

"There will be somebody in September for us. Whether it is Canelo or somebody else," Sanchez added. "But if he doesn't fight him then Golovkin will be the WBC champion. That is what Golovkin has been after. He wants the four belts and then after that we will see what happens but hopefully Canelo is a man of his word."

Golovkin is the reigning International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association middleweight champion. The 33-year-old Kazakh is also being linked to a possible title unification bout against newly-crowned World Boxing Organization champion Billy Joe Saunders.

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions confirmed that they made a lucrative offer to Saunders and his camp for a title unification bout in April at Madison Square Garden. Loeffler confirmed to BoxingScene that they tendered a $3 million fight purse to Saunders, but his camp is unlikely to take the fight offer.
