Gennady Golovkin could face fellow middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders in a title unification bout in April before the unbeaten Kazakh collide with Mexican boxing superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who handles the career of Golovkin, confirmed that they have sent an offer to promoter Frank Warren about a possible unification bout. Warren promotes Saunders, who is the current World Boxing Organization middleweight champion.

Loeffler said they decided to pick Saunders for Golovkin's next fight because the unbeaten Kazakh, who is the reigning International Boxing Federation, International Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association middleweight champion, wants to unify all belts in the division.

"We made a significant offer to Frank Warren as it is still GGG's priority to unify all the middleweight titles," Loeffler told ESPN. "The unification fight with Billy Joe Saunders would be at the top of the list for the next fight. They are interested but no response yet."

Saunders became an option for Golovkin after the 26-year-old ran away with a majority decision win over former champion Andy Lee during their title fight on Dec. 19 in Manchester, England. Saunders displayed his punching power during the bout, as he knocked Lee down twice in the third round of the bout.

Warren also confirmed that they received an offer from Golovkin's camp but there is no deal at this point. The promoter admitted that money will be a factor when they decide on whether or not to accept the unification bout against Golovkin, who holds a 34-0 record with 31 knockout victories.

"Money talks louder than anything in boxing and such are the sums involved it is one certainly worth considering," Warren said. "We will be sitting down to talk about the future with Billy Joe once he has enjoyed his break. He has some really tasty options out there, and whatever happens we will come up with something really special."

Meanwhile, Loeffler also confirmed that they already have a list of possible venues. The K2 promoter revealed that Madison Square Garden is very interested in hosting the bout after Golovkin's previous bout at MSG -- against David Lemieux in October -- drew 20,548 fans. The Forum in Los Angeles and venues in Texas are also in consideration.

Golovkin, who has knocked out his last 21 opponents, is also being linked to a title unification bout against Canelo Alvarez, the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion, but WBC already gave both fighters clearance to fight one more time before the mandatory showdown, which will likely take place in September.
