It looks like fans of BBC's "Sherlock" will have to wait at least another two years to watch the upcoming fourth series of the show. Co-writer Mark Gatiss has confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will still play the Sherlock role, but the new episodes should not be expected to be released before 2016. The long wait is due to the busy schedules of Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (Dr. Watson), who have both become very popular and cast in many lucrative projects, in part due to the show's huge following.

Aside from Cumberbatch as William Sherlock Scott Holmes and Freeman as Dr. John Watson, the next series will have a lot of recognizable faces from the previous seasons like: Rupert Graves (D.I. Greg Lestrade), Una Stubbs (Mrs. Hudson) and Louise Brealey (Molly Hooper).

Some of the new season's spoilers include:

There are said to be more female appearances, which may mean more exposure for the regular female cast members as well as the introduction of new female roles. There will be more new characters, with the aim to give the unsociable Sherlock a more human appeal.

According to the Huffington Post, Martin Freeman revealed that Sherlock might have a special episode before the new season; however, he has no idea when shooting will start. He also implied that production for the new season was planned in autumn of this year. It was postponed because of the busy schedules of the actors.

Tom Hiddleston was considered to play a third Holmes brother. In the last episode of previous Series 3, Mycroft Holmes, played by Mark Gatiss, mentioned the possibility of a third Holmes brother that provoked mass speculation on the Internet. Hiddleston became popular for his role as Loki in "Thor" and "The Avengers." Gatiss admitted that casting Hiddleston would be brilliant, but readily said that it was just all speculation so far. Fans, he said, will just have to wait and see.
