Sweden and the Republic of Ireland make their Euro 2016 debuts on Monday in Group D.

The two sides are seen as underdogs to finish top of a group that includes Italy and Belgium, but both know that all it takes is one win to get a chance at third place and advancing to the round of 16.

Zlatan makes his final stand

Sweden is the headliner thanks to superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Paris Saint-germain star is heading to the Old Trafford next season to play for Manchester United and will be looking to put in a strong final shift for his national side before retiring from team. Ibrahimovic, who is 34, has a whopping 62 goals for his national side all-time and has been known to score sensational goals. He scored the goal of the tournament four years ago in the Euro against France despite not being able to help his side get out of the group stage.

Despite his age, Ibrahimovic is as dangerous as ever, scoring 50 goals in 51 matches for PSG this past season; that was his best output of his career and his second best season (2013-14) was not even close (a 10-goal difference). What is more, Ibrahimovic scored 11 goals for the national side last season, his best such output since 2012 when he score 11 goals as well. He has yet to score for his national side, so a goal is imminent.

Ireland looks to forget 2012 performance

Ireland meanwhile will look for some redemption after a poor performance in this tournament four years ago. The Irish landed in a group with Spain, Italy and Croatia and experienced one embarrassing defeat after another. The team lost 3-1 against Croatia in the opener before losing 4-0 against Spain and 2-0 against Italy. This year's group is just as tough and Ireland's fate could be similar.

Player to Watch

In what will likely be his final international tournament, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will headline every moment he is a part of. He is still capable of dominating anyone on his own with his unbeatable physique and scoring ability.

History favors Sweden

Sweden holds the edge, having won five games against the Irish and only lost three while drawing two. Ireland does have the better record of late, winning two of the last four as Sweden has only managed one win in that span. The most recent match in 2013 ended in a 2-1 win for Sweden in the World Cup qualifiers.

Prediction

Sweden will come through with a 2-0 win courtesy of superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
