The one-of-a-kind 2016 Burning Man festive is set to open this Sunday, August 28, in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Scheduled to run through Sept. 5, what distinguishes Burning Man from all other festivals is ticket buyers are actually encouraged to participate in the show and entertainment, including creating art and taking the stage for performances. The lineup for this year's festival includes Red Axes, Herman Cattaneo, Miyagi, Amine K, Dave Seaman and Darin Epsilon. Tickets sell for $390 each and additionally 27,000 vehicle passes were made available at $80 each.

Festival Held for Three Decades

The festival got its start 30-years ago in San Francisco as part of the city's annual fire party. The act moved to Nevada four years later when authorities began to frown on the idea of a burning statue lighting up the beach front.

Nowadays, thousands upon thousands gather in Nevada for what's billed as a week of community, art, self-expression and self-reliance. The theme of this year's event is will be Da Vinci's Workshop, with presentations inspired by the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries during the time of the Italian Renaissance.

More specifically, the workshop will focus on the rediscovery of science, humanist ideals and more historical happenings stemming from the time of the republic of Florence, an era known for its love of beauty, costume, pageantry and the human anatomy.

Throughout the festivities attendees are encouraged to create the pieces that most stimulate them as well as to seek out the projects and installations that serve to inspire them.

As in year's past, the 2016 event will continue to enforce its "Leave No Trace" policy where attendees are encouraged to leave no trace of their visit to Black Rock City. The area is home to many animals and plants and heavy littering or contamination of the area is not look upon favorably.
