A new Scottish study suggested that heavy usage of marijuana will be bad for the bone; researchers have further stated that people who consumed Marijuana in excess had lower bone density when compared to cigarette smokers.

WebMD reported that excess usage of pot have more than twice the risk of suffering a broken bone, the study claimed that people who smoke cigarettes have lesser  risk.

Though it some cases it is believed that Marijuana helps to cure certain health issues. It is clear that Heavy usage of the drug will not support bone health. This was stated by Dr. Matthew Hepinstall an orthopaedic surgeon in New York City.

According to Live Science people who use excess marijuana have thinner bones. This could lead to osteoporosis, a condition in which the bones become fragile and brittle.

As per the research it appeared that people who consumed marijuana on 5,000 or more occasions had 5 percent lower bone density. The researchers were also certain that on average regular Marijuana users had experienced more fractures and bone issues when compared to people who did not consume the drug.

It is still not proven that smoking marijuana causes the bone's to become thinner, having thin bones could be in the gene on an individual. The finding of the research only suggests that there is a connection between excess marijuana use and thinner bones.

Cannabis also has an effect on body cells and brain cells, some studies state that the brain is more active when marijuana is consumed. However, there are equal number of studies that even explain the damage caused to the brain and the entire system.

Some pot consumers also believe that tobacco causes more damage to the lungs than Marijuana, the study will be researched further to identify the damage caused by the drug on bones. It will also take into consideration other parameters like consumption of food, water and sleep patterns of excess marijuana users.
