It was reported recently that screenwriter Michael Dougherty, co-writer of X2 and Superman Returns, will script Godzilla 2. He will join Zach Shields as co-writer. This tandem is not the first since they have just collaborated with the horror flick Krampus where Michael was the director.

Before it was confirmed that the sequel will be penned by Max Borenstein, the 2014 Godzilla scriptwriter but Legendary Pictures might see something for this change. Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields' "Krampus" work perhaps was liked much by Legendary Pictures.

This company have hired both to write Godzilla 2. They might have promised to give more than that of Krampus'. Michael was reported by ScreenCrush to direct also this giant monster filled movie since the sequel lost Gareth Edwards as the director just a few days after the release date was pushed back.

The original release date of Godzilla 2 is June 2018, but it was delayed and rescheduled March 22, 2019. The postponement of the release might have made in order to give more for creating a writers' room to organize a growing giant universe. This would be followed just in 2020 with Godzilla versus Kong.

The first Godzilla battled against other giant beasts trashing humans that were caught in the middle. The movie was also concerned with other monsters, as they make the modern world their stomping ground.

No one knows what Michael and Zach will change to add in the script, but this would probably prepare viewers to a cinematic universe of giant monsters. This is the reason why Legendary and Warner Bros. have worked together to bring the combination of Godzilla and Kong together, so that they will occupy one shared Marvel-like universe.
