Floyd Mayweather Jr. remains mum about his opponent in his next fight in September, but Marcos Maidana's camp is still hoping that "El Chino" will get the rematch that he deserves.

In an interview with BoxingScene on Thursday, Sebastian Cortusi, Maidana's adviser, said that they are expecting to get a rematch since Maidana deserves another shot after giving Mayweather one of the toughest fights of his career during their showdown last month.

"What we expect, what 'Chino' Maidana is expecting, is that Mayweather rematch -- because we believe that is something that is easily deserved. The truth is Maidana is the boxer who has given Floyd one of the most competitive fights in his career and also in the last couple years," Cortusi said.

Cortusi added that he is scheduled to meet with Al Haymon to talk about their next move, and he is hoping that the influential adviser will make a move to make Mayweather vs. Maidana happen again later this year.

"Next week I will meet with Al Haymon in Los Angeles to talk about the next fight for Maidana. So far we are all back from vacation, so we have not yet addressed the issue of the next opponent," Cortusi said.

Maidana, who was considered as a heavy underdog heading into their showdown in May 3, surprised his critics and put the pressure on Mayweather's shoulder for the entire fight before absorbing a close majority decision against the reigning pound-for-pound king.

After the fight, Mayweather said that he is more than willing to give Maidana a rematch, but the 30-year-old Argentine believes that the unbeaten champion has not shown interest in fighting him again in September.

"I don't believe that he wants to fight me. I'm waiting for him to give me the rematch," Maidana recently said.

With the Mayweather rematch possibly out of the picture this year, previous reports indicated that Maidana might face Amir Khan in a rematch instead of Mayweather.

Golden Boy Promotions' Oscar De La Hoya also talked about the possibility of arranging a fight between Maidana and Manny Pacquiao, but the Buenos Aires-native made it clear that he is not interested in other fights at this point.

"I do not want to fight with anyone other than Mayweather," Maidana said. "I'm not interested in a rematch with Amir Khan. I will stay calm and wait for a big fight. I am only 30 years old, I can still have the pleasure of enjoying my family and come back well rested within a year."
