Law enforcement in Mexico has arrested a suspected serial killer, who was accused of reeling in women through fake Facebook ads for a job offer.

The Guardian reported that the suspect is an alleged serial killer of women, with at least seven cases of women's killings where the person could be involved, according to assistant public safety secretary Ricardo Mejia.

Surveillance camera footage from two states showed the man meeting with the victims in public cases.

Officials said in one case, the victim was driven away on a motorbike.

Mejia said the most recent case involved a 31-year-old woman who was killed in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz after she went for a job interview last month.

The assistant public safety secretary identified the recent victim as Viridiana Moreno, adding that Moreno left her house in Cardel to attend a supposed job interview she got with someone on Facebook.

Mejia said that the 31-year-old disappeared after that.

Prosecutors noted that the man had a series of aliases he had been using. He had also been sought on rape charges in 2012, according to a CBS News report.

They listed Juan Carlos Gasperin and Greek Roman Villalobos as his two most common aliases.

The alleged Mexico serial killer was arrested with a female companion in the northern state of Queretaro. It was unclear if the suspect had a lawyer.

Authorities said he may also have been involved in cases in the states of Queretaro and Puebla.

Moreno's name was made public by relatives who protested after her disappearance. Her body was found days later and was identified by an ID card found near the scene and by DNA testing.

The same suspect had killed a 22-year-old student looking for work in April, according to prosecutors in the central state of Morelos.

Local activists said that the student was lured into meeting the suspect at a cafeteria in late March by a Facebook ad for a job or articles for sale.

The suspect had taken her to a barber shop, where she was killed. Her body was found three days later, with prosecutors saying she was "beaten, sexually abused, and strangled."

Serial Killer Cases in Mexico

In 2021, authorities apprehended a serial killer with investigators digging under the house of the suspect.

ABC News noted that investigators have found 3,787 bone fragments so far, belonging to 17 different victims.

He was caught after killing his recent victim, a 34-year-old woman who was the wife of a police commander.

The police commander knew that the suspect had accompanied his wife on a shopping trip the day she disappeared.

He then gained access to police surveillance cameras showing that his wife had entered the suspect's street but never left.

The policeman then found his wife's body inside the suspect's home when he confronted the killer.

Investigators found women's clothing, voter IDs, and audio and video tapes, implying that the suspect recorded his victims.
