As former President Donald Trump is busy campaigning for the Republican Primaries, he will also be facing a tough legal battle over his porn star hush money payments around the same time.

This is because his trial over falsifying business records to pay off porn star Stormy Daniels not to talk about her affair with Trump will begin on March 25, 2024, which will be right in the middle of the presidential primary season, only eight months away from the 2024 presidential elections.

According to CNBC, Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan announced the trial schedule as Trump appeared via a video hookup for the hearing that was held on Tuesday.

The judge also warned the ex-POTUS that he could be sanctioned should he violate the order that "restricts his ability to make public evidence and other material related to the criminal case." Concerns about Trump posting evidence on social media to rile up his base and spread false narratives were what led to the order being put in place.

Donald Trump is accused of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, becoming the first former president to ever be indicted after leaving office. The ex-POTUS allegedly mischaracterized payments by the Trump Organization to his former attorney Michael Cohen, who paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep quiet shortly before the 2016 presidential election.

Donald Trump Attacks Judge After the Hush Money Payment Hearing

Reports from the courtroom indicated that Trump did not say much during the hearing. However, he was visibly glowering at the camera as Judge Merchan advised him to cancel all other obligations for the duration of the trial, which might go for a few weeks.

While he said very little as the hearing went on, Trump immediately ranted about it on social media shortly after it concluded, according to the Associated Press.

"Just had New York County Supreme Court hearing where I believe my First Amendment Rights, 'Freedom of Speech,' have been violated, and they forced upon us a trial date of March 25, right in the middle of Primary season," posted the former president on social media.

The former president called the schedule "Very unfair" and accused "Radical Left Democrats" of "ELECTION INTERFERENCE" before claiming that "nothing like this has ever happened in our Country before!!!"

However, Judge Merchan stated that he decided on the March 25 trial after discussions with Trump's lawyers and prosecutors, with Trump attorney Susan Necheles admitting that her client already knew about the date even before the Tuesday hearing.

Donald Trump Could Still Win Key States During the Republican Primaries Before Trial Begins

While he has been very vocal about his opposition to the trial date shortly after it was officially announced, Business Insider pointed out that he could still win a few key Republican primaries before it could begin.

Just before the trial begins, two of the biggest states, Texas and California, will be holding their 2024 primaries on March 5, also known as Super Tuesday. Two more big states, Ohio and Florida, are set to happen just 10 days before the trial begins.

Should he win those big states before the trial, he could possibly secure the Republican nomination even if he loses other states that might take place during the trial.
