Beyoncé and Jay Z famously skipped Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's wedding in May, and the real reason behind their absence was recently explained.

Instead of flying to Paris then to Florence to attend the highly publicized, lavish ceremony, the hip-hop power couple opted for a quite weekend in the Hamptons with their baby daughter Blue Ivy. The R&B diva effortlessly congratulated Kimye via Instagram: "Wishing you a lifetime of unconditional love. God bless your beautiful family."

According to New York Post, the "Drunk in Love" duo apparently "shunned Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's wedding because it was too low-rent for the Jay/Beyoncé brand." Also, a source claimed that they did not show up to the event because they did not want to be overshadowed by the "Yeezus" rapper and the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" star: "They are guarding like hell their status."

"Beyoncé wasn't going to allow a Kardashian to socially climb her," the source added. "And Jay didn't want Kanye with him -- he thinks it's bad for business. I think Jay lost a little respect for Kanye there."

On the "Crazy in Love" hitmakers missing his wedding, West previously to GQ: "It doesn't even matter to me whatsoever, who would should show up. Because the most important person to show up there, to me, was Kim. And that's all that matters to me."

Meanwhile, Kardashian took to her Instagram account on Thursday, July 24, to throw low-key shade at Bey and Hov. As part of throwback Thursday, she shared a photo of her husband wearing a black ski mask, posing with Scott Disick. "#ThrowbackThursday #LastYear #StyleIcons," she wrote the following caption.

The reality star seemingly wanted to remind her followers that Yeezy is the one who sets the trend and makes bold fashion statement, as he wore the same ski mask that Beyoncé and Jay Z are wearing in their promotional images for their ongoing "On the Run" joint tour a year ago.
