During an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" director Francis Lawrence dished on what to expect in the upcoming "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and 2" films.

"Hunger Games" fans can expect to see a more "agitated" Katniss in Part 1 of the two-part "Mockingjay" film.

"It's a very confusing, conflicted, complicated time for Katniss," Lawrence tells EW. "Having gone through the games one more time and having lost Peeta and having been run through the wringer, she's even more damaged. So you find her in a more agitated place. She's distraught, confused, angry."

Although the "Mockingjay" novel, written by Suzanne Collins, delves into the struggles that Katniss experiences while attempting to overthrow the Capitol, the "Mockingjay" movie will incorporate humor in addition to depicting Katniss' state of turmoil. [Entertainment Weekly]

"There's definitely some battles. There's some of the first glimpses of real war in this movie. And the scale gets quite big," he reveals. "There's an atonal shift from some of the last movies, but they're still very emotional, very sweeping, [on a] grand scale with some levity and humor."

Overall, Lawrence strives to keep the upcoming "Mockingjay" film as close to Collins' novel as possible. However, Lawrence explained that he and Collins worked closely together to include scenes that "could have been happening at different times in the book."

"For us it's world expansion instead of changing things. I think it's exciting for the fan to see certain things," Lawrence explained. "So we've been able to open the world up in this and see some new places. We get to see some new districts this time and the scope gets quite large."

One way that Lawrence intends to "open up the world" of "Mockingjay" is by expanding the role of President Alma Coin played by newcomer to the "Hunger Games" cast, Julianne Moore.

"What's interesting is although she's [Alma] a huge character in Mockingjay the book, there's actually very little of her in it. There's more of her in this than in the book and because of that, there's some development," Lawrence revealed.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" will release in theaters on Nov. 21, 2014.
