According to multiple reports, Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is likely to leave the team after this season.

Suh has been a great defensive tackle for the Lions since being drafted in 2010, but friction and controversy has always followed. In his first season, Suh was awarded the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award because of his 10 sacks, 48 tackles and one interception. Defensive tackles are used more for run stopping than sacks, but Suh has still recorded 48.5 sacks in his young career.

Unfortunately, Suh has been one of the most punished players in the league, most notably for the stomp against the Green Bay Packers' Evan Dietrich and was ejected from the game. Suh was also suspended two games for the incident. According to the New York Daily News, Suh has been fined a total of $216,875 for all of his fines, so far.

Still, Suh is a handful at the line of scrimmage for opposing guards and centers, and he's still just 27 years old. Suh constantly draws double teams, freeing up linebackers and defensive ends to make plays on defense. With everyone knowing Suh wants out, the question comes up: Why don't the Lions just trade him? In 2010, the Lions signed Suh to a five-year contract worth up to $68 million, with $50 million guaranteed.

As good as Suh is, no NFL team is going to trade for that rookie contract.

In Week 3, the Lions defeated the New York Jets 24-17 at MetLife Stadium. The Lions won the game, but there's no doubt that Suh pictured himself playing in that very stadium one day. Jets head coach Rex Ryan is one of the best defensive masterminds in the entire NFL, and the two would be a great fit together.

Then again, there is the New York Giants. No other NFL team in the 21st century has had better defensive players than Big Blue. Players such as Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Michael Strahan and Jason Pierre Paul all made their marks in a Giants uniform disrupting the line of scrimmage week in and week out. The legacy is always complete with a Super Bowl title, which the Giants have won two in recent memory.

The Lions have only made the playoffs one time (2011) this century, and haven't won a championship since 1957.

The fact the Lions are actually showing sign of improvements and Suh still wants out of Detroit, speaks a lot of volume. Why would anyone want to play for the Jets, who haven't had a winning record in three consecutive seasons, and looking to be a fourth? Even the Giants have missed the playoffs the last two years.

But it's New York. When you win and do great things in New York, you can become a legend. No disrespect to Detroit, but they're just not New York.

Suh also knows he will get far more media attention paid to him in New York than Detroit. Whether or not winning a Super Bowl championship is first on his list, Suh will always be front and center on the biggest stage in the biggest media market. On the other hand, Suh will be under more pressure to win than ever. There's a big difference between playing for a franchise that hasn't won a championship in over 50 years, and playing for a franchise that has won a championship the last four consecutive decades.

Only time will tell where Suh will end up next season, and if his future involves the Big Apple.
