Angry Birds fans were more than willing to "Join the Pork Side" with Angry Birds Star Wars 2's unexpected release a day ahead of schedule.

The much awaited sequel has been released a day ahead of its expected September 19 release date. The hit game quietly slipped itself into the App Store - surprising many fans.

Angry Birds Star Wars 2 allows players to either use the Force for good or join the "Pork Federation" or the "Pork Side." For the first time, players can choose to be Darth Maul with the double-bladed lightsaber, Darth Vader, General Grievous or any other villain they choose. The game features Angry Birds' biggest character line-up ever at more than 30 playable characters.

This game also introduces telepods which are actually physical toys that players can purchase. Telepods can be used for the game. These small but durable physical toys come with codes which are magnified when placed on a clear plastic stand. Players simply mount the stand over their device's camera and their telepod characters get zapped into the game in an instant.

Telepods can be quite advantageous since there is no limit on how often players can use them. However, purchasing these physical toys are not necessary to play the game. Telepods are now available at Amazon for as low as $1.50 for an Anakin Skywalker bird figure to highly priced telepod sets like the Star Destroyer Set.

The game can be downloaded for $0.99 for Android, iOS and Windows Phone 8. The $0.99 price will not get players the full game though, says Mobile Syrup. In-app purchases will be required to buy optional items, characters and levels. Rovio assures that with time and perseverance, all progress in the game can be attained. AndroidGuys reports that the game can also be downloaded for free from Google Play and Amazon, though it is ad-supported.
