Marcos Maidana took two straight defeats to Floyd Mayweather Jr. this year, but the Argentine believes that he still deserves to be in big fights, saying that he wants to face Manny Pacquiao next year.

Maidana, who holds a 35-5 record with 31 knockout wins, said in an interview that facing Pacquiao is the next best option after the Mayweather fight. The 31-year-old wants the fight to be staged in Argentina, but he conceded that it will be difficult for both parties to schedule the fight in his home country.

"He is the biggest thing for me after Mayweather, and [it makes] business [sense to] fight him," Maidana said of Pacquiao via BoxingScene. "There is a desire to stage something here, but it would be very difficult to make a fight so big in Argentina."

Robert Garcia, Maidana's trainer, also believes that the former World Boxing Association welterweight champion performed well enough in his last two fights to get big-money bouts next year.

Garcia said that they are considering facing Adrien Broner or Amir Khan in a rematch next year, but he also admitted that a fight against Pacquiao is their top priority in 2015.

The world-renowned trainer is not sure, though, whether or not the fight is possible because of promotional conflicts. Pacquiao, who will face Chris Algieri on Nov. 22 in Macau, is also eyeing a showdown against Mayweather next year.

"There's a lot of big fights out there, especially if we're talking about a rematch with Broner, a rematch with Amir Khan. I would love for him to fight Pacquiao. That's the fight that I would love, but that's between his managers and his promotional teams," Garcia told BoxingScene.

Maidana managed to push Mayweather to the limit during their first fight before taking a majority decision loss in May, but was manhandled by the reigning pound-for-pound king in their rematch in September.

But despite failing to hand Mayweather the first loss of his career, Maidana is convinced that he performed very well in both fights and he feels that he can do it against other big-name fighters.

"We failed in reaching the objective, which was to win. I'm very happy with what I did and because I trained very hard. I feel good to fight, and I think I can do it against anyone," Maidana added.
