Dustin Diamond, the actor best known for playing Samuel "Screech" Powers on the '90s sitcom "Saved by the Bell," appeared in a Wisconsin courtroom Monday after being accused of stabbing a man during a bar fight on Christmas.

The 37-year-old actor was taken into custody on the morning of Friday, Dec. 26 by local police in Ozaukee County for allegedly stabbing a man with a switchblade, reports TMZ.

A criminal complaint states that Diamond and his fiancée, Amanda Schutz, got into a physical altercation with two men and a woman at the Grand Avenue Saloon in Port Washington on Christmas night. However, Diamond told police that he accidentally stabbed one of the men while trying to defend his fiancee.

"At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, 2014, the Port Washington Police Department responded to the Grand Ave. Saloon for reports of a stabbing. Evidence quickly gathered at the scene indicates a male, age 37, had stabbed another male patron and left the bar in a white SUV with his 27-year-old girlfriend. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and suspects and took both into custody," read the police statement, according to Us Weekly.

Court documents show that the victim suffered from a non-life threatening, 1/2-inch wound under his armpit and heavy bleeding.

Officers reportedly recovered a switchblade, while Diamond's girlfriend was booked for disorderly conduct and released.

Diamond says that he was executing self-defense after he and his girlfriend were attacked in the bar.

He ended up spending the following weekend in jail and posting a $10,000 bail. He then appeared in the Ozaukee County Circuit Court on Dec. 29 to face charges of second-degree reckless endangerment of safety, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.

His attorney, Thomas Alberti, requested reduced bail and a jury trial in the case.

"Dustin has complete faith in the justice system," Alberti told reporters outside the courtroom, according to the Associated Press. He added that Diamond was "not happy he missed the Packers game" while in jail, and that he "made the best of his time here. He got caught up on some books."

Diamond is scheduled for another court hearing on Jan. 5.
