Manny Pacquiao could eventually face British boxer Amir Khan instead of colliding with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a super fight on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion, still has Mayweather on top of his list of possible opponents, but the Filipino boxing icon is ready to move on in case the reigning pound-for-pound king remains undecided about agreeing to the super showdown.

Michael Koncz, Pacquiao's adviser, told the Daily Mail Online that Khan is indeed an option for Pacquiao. If Mayweather decides not to sign the fight contract for the showdown against Pacquiao, Koncz said that they might focus on arranging a bout against Khan either at Wembley Stadium in London or in Abu Dhabi.

"Just in case Floyd doesn't come through we regard Amir as the best possible alternative," Koncz said to the Daily Mail. "He and Manny would make for a very exciting fight and Manny would be more than happy to do it at Wembley stadium. We are looking at that possibility and also Abu Dhabi as another potential venue."

Khan, who scored impressive decision victories against Luis Collazo and Devon Alexander last year, is also eyeing a showdown with Mayweather, who is still undecided on his opponent for his May 2 fight.

Khan, a former world champion, also expressed interest in facing Pacquiao in case Mayweather decides to go into another direction. The 28-year-old Briton is a good friend and former sparring partner of Pacquiao, but Khan said they are open to setting aside their friendship to give boxing fans an exciting fight.

"I've been looking at Wembley which would be a great stage for me and Manny and Abu Dhabi is very much in the running," said Khan, who recently met Pacquiao in London. "It was great seeing Manny again. We talked a bit about old times and also about the future. Although we have this friendship, if fighting each other makes sense then it can certainly happen."

Pacquiao echoed Khan's statement, saying that facing his former stable mate is possible based on the current status of the negotiation for the Mayweather bout. The eight-division world champion has reportedly agreed to terms for the May 2 fight against his biggest rival, but has yet to receive an answer from Mayweather's camp.

Pacquiao said that he is willing to wait until the end of the month, but Mayweather recently said that the former pound-for-pound king has no right to make a demand.
