The Daily Mail reports that Scodelario is a 22-year-old U.K. native whose notable credits includee starring in "Skins" and the upcoming "The Maze Runner" film. Scodelario will follow in the footsteps of her predecessor Keira Knightley, who took on the female lead role in the previous "Pirates of the Caribbean" films.

According to Coming Soon, Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, while Geoffrey Rush will return as Captain Barbossa.

Javier Bardem will play the film's villain, Captain Brand, while Brenton Thwaites will play British soldier Henry alongside Scodelario, who will play his love interest.

It has not been confirmed whether Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner in the first three installments, will return to the series. However, the Daily Mail claims that Bloom previously expressed his interest to reprise his role in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean" reboot.

"I'm not entirely sure that [I'll be back] just yet, but there are talks," he said. "Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son. I'm of course Davey Jones now, so I'm down the bottom of the ocean. It might be kind of fun to do something where I'm rumbling round the bottom of the ocean because I won't look anything like me."

Variety reports that pre-production is already underway with filming taking place in Australia. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 7, 2017 and will be directed by Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg.
