The Boston Red Sox have made several big moves this offseason, but reports suggested they are still looking to improve their roster and are reportedly interested in pitchers Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee.

Nick Cafardo of Boston Globe reported that Hamels and Lee are still on the Red Sox's radar, but it remains to be seen whether or not they will eventually strike a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies before the start of the 2015 MLB season.

The Red Sox have been chasing Hamels over the past several months. Previous reports indicated that Boston offered tested talents instead of prospects for the 36-year-old pitcher, but the Phillies turned down the offer.

According to Cafardo, Lee is the more logical target for the Red Sox at this point, especially if the Phillies remain firm on their previous asking price for each pitcher.

Lee, who went 4-5 in 13 starts last season with a 3.65 ERA and 72 strikeouts, is set to make $25 million in the coming season and will have a $27.5 million player option next season, but his contract could be bought out for just $12.5 million.

The two teams are expected to have numerous talks again in the coming weeks, but the Phillies are reportedly not planning to give up both Lee and Hamels just for the sake of moving their lucrative deals. The Phillies are reportedly looking to speed up their rebuilding process, but are not willing to settle for less for the two pitchers.

"The two teams will scout one another to death over the next few weeks," Cafardo wrote. "There's really nothing more to see, but they'll keep looking. If the Phillies can't get what they want for Hamels and Lee, they'll keep them and put them at the top of the rotation."

In an interview with USA Today, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington also sounded like they will not budge and give the Phillies what they are looking for, saying that they are ready to compete with the pitchers they have on their roster for the upcoming season.

"Not that we don't respect the other guys are out there," Cherington said, referring to Hamels and Lee. "But the guys we expect in the rotation don't feel they have to take a backseat to anybody. I think it does motivate them. But aside from motivation, we actually do feel like we got a very strong pitching staff."
