Dallas Mavericks point guard Rajon Rondo admitted that he is honored Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant wants to play with him starting next season.

Rondo, who was traded to the Mavericks from the Boston Celtics late last year, will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2014-15 NBA season.

The Lakers, who are in dire need of another superstar to help Bryant, are reportedly planning to make a strong push to acquire Rondo, who was seen having breakfast with the 17-time All-Star in December.

Following the breakfast meeting, Bryant admitted that Rondo is one of the players he wants to play with before he ends his career. Bryant said that he has the same winning mindset as Rondo.

When the Celtics traded Rondo to the Mavericks, Bryant insisted that the trade will not stop him from trying to recruit the 29-year-old point guard to Los Angeles despite reports indicating that the former Kentucky standout informed Dallas that he will sign a new deal in the offseason.

When asked about Bryant's plan to convince him to sign with the Lakers in the offseason, Rondo said that he is flattered because a veteran superstar wants to play with him, but insisted that he is still focused on helping the Mavericks reach their goal this season before thinking about free agency.

"When he speaks, it speaks volumes," Rondo said after the Mavericks scored a 100-93 win over the Lakers on Sunday night in Los Angeles. "It's an honor and a compliment that he'd want to play with a guy like me, but right now, I'm focused on winning a championship with the Dallas Mavericks."

Rondo, who tallied 9.4 points to go along with 6.2 assists and 4.6 rebounds in his first 30 games in a Mavericks uniform, said in an interview with Yahoo Sports that he will consider all options in the offseason, including signing a long-term deal with the Mavericks.

The 29-year-old point guard denied reports suggesting that he will not entertain the idea of re-signing with the Mavericks after having a heated argument with coach Rick Carlisle in one of their games last month.

"I'm misunderstood in general," Rondo said when asked about reports indicating that he wants out of Dallas. "I don't mind because I'm very quiet and I stay to myself. People are going to say what they want to say. I don't talk, so I don't know why they would say that. I don't think I play as if I don't want to be here."
